Family Planning

At Family Medical Centre we offer a wide range of family planning options. We recognise that couples and individuals have a need for balanced, unbiased and up to date information and guidance when making choices regarding their sexuality. Dr. Caroline Grant, the prinicipal physician at Family Medical Centre, has been trained in family planning and practising in the field for over 10 years.

Family Planning involves contraceptive choices, female and male sexual health, screening for sexually transmitted infections and pre-conception counselling.

The main contraceptive choices available in Trinidad and Tobago are the rhythm method, spermicides, barrier methods, hormonal methods including the range of pills and injections, the intra-uterine device and  male and female sterilisation. With the exception of sterilisation, all of these methods are available at Family Medical Centre. Dr. Grant is also trained in the insertion and removal of subdermal implants, however these devices are not currently available in Trinidad and Tobago.

Male and female sexual health is of critical importance for normal fertility. For men, we offer prostate, testicular and penile examinations. We also arrange futher tests of prostate and testicular function as appropriate. For women we offer pap smears, pelvic examinations for early detection of pathology such as cysts, fibroids and tumors and management of menstrual disorders including the polycystic ovarian syndrome.

Pre pregnancy counselling is very important and is often overlooked. Family planning offers you the ability to make choices about spacing your family and preparing your body properly when you have made the decision to commence or extend your family.
